Beskrivning
Victorian, Gold lapel pin in a presentation box. Shield shaped badge with depiction of two cricketers standing either side of a wicket and shield inscribed ‘S Jones to E M Grace’. Floral outer border, scroll above and below ‘Otago/ Canterbury’. 'JH' stamped on reverse. Long twisted shaft. Rectangular board and papier mache box with partially curved top. Top covered in red shagreen or embossed leather. Emerald green silk and velvet lining. Paper maker’s label adhered to inner lid.

The tie or lapel pin was presented to Grace by the promoter of the New Zealand leg of the tour, Shadrach Jones. Gifts were often given to the players by `admirers’ and in this instance, Grace alluded to it in his letters home: `Jones gave each of us such an ugly pin worth about 3 or 4 pounds of solid gold, but it is so ugly I cannot describe it’
