Comic print showing an army of men armed with cricket bats, monochrome in black wooden frame. Captioned 'Sir Edward Watkin proposes to construct a Railway passing trhough Lord's Cricket Ground.' "In 1891 by Act of Parliament in Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway were authorised to build tunnels from Marylebone Station running under the eastern fringe of Lord's Cricket Ground. This proposal has been strongly opposed by the MCC, but finally the matter was settled by the MCC giving up part of the freehold of the Practice Ground in exchange for a larger area occupied by the Clergy Orphans School on the condition that the club were granted a ninety-nine year lease of the ground immediately over the tunnels."
