Miniatures made from old bats, including those of Grace, Gunn and Shrewsbury; in a bat-rack. The stand consists of an arched frame to which is attached the inscription (on paper): Presented to M.C.C. by Mr. E.A. Bennett, 1927. A bow-window front - floor with slots (labelled 1 to 5) and top strip of brass with 5 holes, clasping the bats. On the floor between frame and bats is a label inscribed: 1 and 5: Miniature bats made from old bats, particulars of which / have been lost. 2. Miniature bat made from an old bat of Shrewsbury's / 3. Miniature bat made from an old bat used by W.G. Grace / in Australia during the tour of Lord Sheffield's team. / 4. Miniature bat made from an old bat of W. Gunn's. All the bats are spliced and have twine covered handles. Details: (1) unmarked; (2) written on shoulder: A. Shrewsbury; (3) written on shoulder: W. Grace; (4) written on shoulder: Gunn / 208 / Notts / v / Yorkshire; stamped on face: Trimmings / Maker, and two trade marks (Prince of Wales Feathers); (5) unmarked, varnished.
