Nasser Hussain was captain of the England side which refused to play in Zimbabwe during the 2003 ICC World Cup, questioning both the moral aspect of playing cricket in Zimbabwe and the personal safety of cricketers who visited there. England forfeited the match and failed to progress in the tournament. Hussain would resign the England captaincy a few months later. He used this bat in making 103 not out in his last Test innings, versus New Zealand at Lord’s in 2004.
