“Gubby” Allen was a fast bowler who played for Middlesex and England, captaining his country 11 times including the 1936/37 tour to Australia. After retiring as a player he chaired the England selection panel from 1955 to 1961, served as President of MCC in 1963-64 and acted as the Club’s Treasurer for 12 years. The Allen Stand at Lord’s is named after him.
