Описание
The story of David and Bathsheba in and extensive Flemish landscape. A game of real tennis taking place in a palace in the foreground. David and Bathsheba with a real tennis court and an ornamental garden beyond
Allegorical painting of a bible scene from the story of David and Bathsheba. In the foreground to the right is the King (Kind David of Israel and Judah) handing a letter to a man wearing green and bowing (Uriah the Hittite). In the center a game of tennis is played with spectators watching from the sides. In the distance are houses and cottages, hills and a harbor.
The letter is a warrant sending Uriah to the front line of a battle and thereby signing his death warrant. David had Uriah himself carry the message that ordered his death. After Uriah was dead, David married Uriah’s widow Bathsheba whom he had an affair with prior to Uriah being sent to the front line.
