Sir Pelham Warner, in whose honour this stand was named by the Duke of Norfolk, President of the M.C.C. at the opening ceremony on 7th May 1958
It has recently been conserved and restored to its original condition.
David Wynne, who died in 2014, was an untrained but hugely popular figurative sculptor responsible for a particularly large number of public commissions in London. He started to establish a reputation in the late 1950s with Jacob Epstein as his mentor and went on to work for a wide variety of patrons from the Royal Family to the Playboy Empire. He always sculpted from life, spending large amounts of time in the case of his animal sculptures either in the mountains, underwater or at the zoo.
