Maker not marked but attributed by the Victoria and Albert Museum to the Stevengraph Works, Coventry.Thomas Stevens (1828=1888) invented this type of small woven picture, named after him. His firm continued to produce Stevengraphs after his death until the beginning of the Second World War. They were usually mounted and inscribed on the mount. In this case there is no mount. During the bombing of Coventry the works with their stock and looms were totally destroyed.

Grace stands at the wicket; he wears cap and sash in the M.C.C. colours, gloves bearing black rubber guards, white boots and pads. The background is all green. The picture is copied from a photograph (cromo-lithograph) published in the Sporting and Dramatic News, July 6, 1895.
