Victorian, Large, grey/brown emu’s egg, cup and cover, mounted on a silver stand, shaped like a palm tree, with a foliage decorated base. Silver edging band around top of egg with bird mounted at apex. Inscribed on base ‘S & P to WB Melbourne 1862’. Initially the first set of letters were described as ‘JT’ possibly due to the name of the donator, but appear to be S &P
Presented to Mr W Burrup who helped to manage the 1862 tour, by Mr Christopher Pond of Spiers and Pond, who ran the Café de Paris and were responsible for bringing the All England Eleven to Australia.

This egg was presented to William Burrup by the Melbourne catering firm for the part he played in the arrangement of the first tour by an English team to Australia in 1861. Burrup was a founder member and Secretary of Surrey CCC and seven of the tourists were Surrey men.
