The flypast of Lancaster B I PA474 “City of Lincoln”, the
last remaining airworthy Lancaster in the United Kingdom,
formed part of celebrations to mark the 65th anniversary
of the Ground being returned to the Club’s control after its
use as an Air Crew Reception Centre during the Second
World War. MCC entertained members of the RAF
Bomber Command Association and, prior to their
deployment to Afghanistan, men of the 1st Regiment
Royal Horse Artillery and the 8th/12th Medium Regiment
of the Royal Australian Artillery at the 4th One Day
International between England and Australia on 15th
September 2009. The match was the second of the series
to be played at Lord’s; both were won by Australia, who
claimed the seven-match series 6-1.
