Pair of boots with white, slightly napped leather uppers. Leather soles and calf [unverified] lining. Laced with ten enamelled metal eyelets. Cloth heel tabs with maker’s name ‘Tecnic’. Maker’s label inside, ‘Tecnic Cushion insole British patent No. 324873 1929’. Evidence of four studs in heel, twelve around edge of sole, staggered on inside edge.
Don Bradman, like many fine batsmen, was a relatively small, nimble man noted for his splendid footwork. Faced with England’s “Bodyline” attack, his method was to back away to leg and hit the ball off the back-foot through the off-side. It was only a partial success; his series aggregate of 396 runs at an average of 56.57 would have been magnificent by anyone else’s standards. But in 1930 he had scored 974 at 139.14. This boot is one of a pair worn by Bradman during his final Test series in 1948.
