Cup with white underglaze, hand coloured print transfer decoration showing male figures with peg legs and hook hands playing cricket. At the bottom of image is a painted jug labelled "grog". Gold leaf on rim.
The decoration of this porcelain mug shows male figures with peg legs and hook hands playing cricket. At the bottom of the image is a jug labelled “grog”, a reference to the Royal Navy. This scene represents a match between Greenwich Hospital and Chelsea Hospital Pensioners, the artificial limbs being a result of injuries received during military service.
