Unglazed, stone ware figure of a batsman. The figure is made from intersecting ‘rolls’ of clay to create a sense of power behind the swing and movement through the form. The rolled pottery technique was developed by Blackman in 1978. Includes separate base.

The Batsman figure is made from intersecting ‘rolls’ of clay, a pottery technique developed by sulptor Audrey Blackman in 1978.
Blackman studied ceramic techniques at the Oxford School of Art with Gladys Grimshaw and exhibited at the Royal Academy, as well as in group and solo exhibitions aboard. She was renowned for her sculptures in bronze, and for the ceramic figures she made in her later years.
