Description
Silver cup with lid/cover. Simple, elegant design with two scrolled handles and rounded knob. Engraved ‘Jeu de Paume’ with picture of two racquets and baskets of balls. ‘Coupe de L’Exposition 1937 Offerte par La Ville de Paris’ with picture of man in a real tennis court about to serve. Round, black ebonised wood base with silver metal plaque. Inscribed ‘Coupe de L'Exposition, Paris 1937. Won by Lord Aberdare. This cup was presented to MCC by the Fourth Lord Aberdare in commemoration of his father's great achievements at Tennis and Racquets’. Stamped on stand: Mappin & Webb/Paris/ Rue de la Paix.
