Description
Spliced cane handle, double sprung perpendicular springs, twined. Straight blade, indistinct swell. Blade bound with twine. Worn toe. Maker's marks on face, reverse and head of handle. Signatures, weight and inscription on face. ‘Trumper’ in pencil on reverse.
Bat used by Victor Trumper, who came to England with four successive Australian teams 1899 - 1909. The inscription on this bat, which he probably used during the 1905 tour, reads: 'This which I selected at the beginning of our tour is the best that I have ever used and never want a better.'
