Basil D’Oliveira played 44 Test matches for England between 1966 and 1972, averaging 40.06. The 158 he made at the Oval in 1968 would remain the highest of his five Test centuries. He also played in the first ever one-day international at Melbourne in 1971. Fittingly, for a cricketer whose physical appearance was such a major influence on his career, the bat produced bearing his name also bore his likeness.
