Descripción
MCC, navy blue, touring blazer, with red and gold Petersham ribbon trim around pockets, cuffs and outer edge. Motif: Embroidered MCC emblem on breast pocket (white St. George & Dragon), scroll below ‘West Indies’. ‘D.C.F. Burton 1931’ handwritten to label. Three brass buttons on front and two on cuffs. Beige lining.
Burton played for MCC in West Indies tour 1910/11 & 1912/13 according to Cricket Archive, so date on label possible mistake.
No uniforms are known to have survived from the 1903 tour and the blazer here displayed is the earliest in the MCC’s collection. It is inscribed 1931 but Burton only toured with MCC in 1912 and 1913, suggesting the labelling was in error.
The famous symbol on the MCC cap was worn from 1903 onward with only slight variations in the design. Letters do survive in the Club’s collection which detail the recommendations of the Office of Heraldry to MCC as to the choice of symbol. The royal Coat of Arms (see cap of 1901-2) was seemingly not an option, and the George and Dragon, notable from its use on the sovereign, was MCC’s final choice.
