Full length, frontal portrait. The sitter is an elderly gentleman with thick white beard. He wears a tall hat, matching suit jacket, waistcoat and trousers. In his left hand he holds a shot gun, by his left foot sits a black and white dog.

One of the early stalwarts of the Gentlemen against the Players: 'Budd always wanted to win the game off a single ball' Lord Frederick Beauclerk. A great hitter of the ball, he also experimented very successfully with round arm bowling and reputedly the quickest fielder of his day.
