Portrait of former MCC President 1902 and England, Yorkshire Captain Allan G Steel depicted at Lord's wearing I Zingari cap by artist Walter Wilson.
Though he was not a regular captain of county or country, he had an improbable run of success as skipper: Marlborough over Rugby, Cambridge over Oxford, Gentlemen over Players, Lancashire over Yorkshire and England over Australia. Steel was also a member of Ivo Bligh's England team which regained the Ashes in Australia in 1882-83; his is one of six names in the poem pasted on the Ashes Urn.
