Descripción
Bat with spliced handle, twine wrapped with black rubber grip. Square shoulders. Maker’s marks on blade and match details on reverse.
This bat was used by Australian wicket-keeper Bill Oldfield during the 1932/33 “Bodyline” Ashes series. Oldfield received a fractured skull when struck on the head by a ball from Larwood during the dramatic Adelaide Test. The Bodyline field was not in place at the time; the ball was only slightly short and ricocheted off Oldfield’s top-edge into his temple. But in an ill-tempered match the injury to Oldfield only added to the crowd’s anger at Jardine’s tactics.
