Ball with which William Ward scored 278 for M.C.C. against Norfolk, July 24th-27th 1820, at Lord's. This was a record for the ground which stood for 105 years. The ball is probably the oldest known cricket ball in existence. Inscription in ink: Ball Mr. Ward/got 278/with/M.C.C. v Norfolk. No legible maker's mark.
