Display caption
This navy blue cap with England crest was worn by Andrew Strauss whilst making a century on his Test debut at Lord’s, England vs. New Zealand, 2004.
Official kit branded with sponsors’ logos is one of the more visible elements of commercialisation in modern international cricket. Less obvious, but equally important, is the change in the England crest. Gone is the royal crown surmounting the three lions. In its place is a coronet, of lesser status in heraldry. This minor alteration allowed the ECB the leeway to produce replica England kit bearing the official crest, which would not have been permitted had they retained the royal crown.
