Print shows men in white playing cricket in a large field. One umpire in a blue jacket, the other in a brown jacket. In the bottom right are a host of spectators. There are two men in chairs watching in the lower middle. Hills and trees are seen in the distance.
At a time when first class teams were comparatively few, it was the custom for them to play against odds, the weaker side being allowed to play, as is shown in this instance, as many as 33 men. In addition, the weaker side were often allowed the services of 'given men', i.e. first class players bought in for the occasion.
