Knight Bachelor medal featuring gold sword and spurs on a red background on a red and yellow ribbon. Also satin and velvet lined, red leather presentation case, containing display instructions on card and red and yellow ribbon with hook.
The vermillion oval face of the Knight Bachelor medallion is overlaid with motifs associated with the warrior class of the Middle Ages: A cross-hilted sword belt and sword between two spurs with rowels facing upwards. The honour is awarded by HM The Queen in recognition for services rendered to society.
Sir Alec Bedser was the 16th cricket-related person be knighted in 1997, and the first for his outstanding bowling. Described as a pillar of English cricket in the immediate post-war era, Bedser took 100 wickets in a season 11 times, and was instrumental in Surrey's eight Championship victories between 1950 and 1958.
Following his death in 4 April 2010 Bedser bequeathed his collection of cricket-related items to M.C.C. Collections.
