Length - overall: 34 1/2 in; blade: 22 1/4 in. Weight: 2 lb. 1 oz.
Rounded back. Spliced handle, unsprung.
Inscription on silver shield on back: Presented to / C.E. Green, Esqre / Captain of C.U.C.C. / for his brilliant innings / in the University match / 1868. Inscription on paper attached to front: This bat was presented to C.E. Green / by Marylebone Cricket Club after the / University match 1868 in recognition / of his having scored over 100 runs in / the match, vis. 44 and 59. Up to this time / no batsman has ever succeeded in / scoring a total of 100 runs in the / University match.
The donor of this bat is not known. A bat received from C.E. Green (see M.17.2) as a bequest has not been identified. There is a possibility that M.46.12 could be this bat, having been put away in the meanwhile and brought out in 1946 after storage of the collection during the war.
