Beschreibung
Full length action portrait of a right arm bowler, viewed from behind, wearing whites and red cap.
The 1958/59 Ashes series featured controversy over “chucking”, and also “dragging”: the practice whereby a fast bowler would drag his back foot beyond the bowling crease and deliver the ball from much less than 22 yards. England fast bowler Fred Trueman was no-balled for dragging during the series but wrote that the umpire had allowed Australia’s Gordon Rorke to bowl “with both feet over the front line”. After various experiments the front-foot no-ball law was introduced in 1969.
