Description
Three quarter length, three quarter facing portrait of a mature man wearing a black suit with two rows of buttons. He has a handlebar moustache and is wearing a red, black and yellow striped tie with a white shirt and grey hat. There is a white handkerchief in his breast pocket. He has both hands in his jacket pockets, and is standing on a cricket pitch or village green. In the background there are trees, and a house and spire on the left hand side.

and MCC President (1875) Sir William Hart-Dyke by
society portraitist Lowes Cato Dickinson who regularly
exhibited at the Royal Academy.
Sir William Hart-Dyke was one of the best amateur
rackets players of his day. He won the Rackets Word
Championships in 1862 from professional Francis
Erwood at the Princes Club. In 1875, he led the Real
Tennis committee that framed the original set of rules.
