The Independent article BF/SS/SA/TEMP4
Although all the players on the rebel tours had faced international condemnation, they had been well-received during their time in South Africa. It was only on the final tour by an England side that the visiting players were faced with outright hostility. The tour took place at a time when the policy of apartheid was finally being dismantled and FW de Klerk both lifted the ban on the ANC and freed Nelson Mandela. The 1990/-91 tour was cancelled as a consequence.
