The World Cricket Cup, sponsored by Rothmans, was launched in 1966 with England, the touring West Indies, and an impressive Rest of the World XI playing each other once in 50-over matches at Lord's. This end-of-season `festival’ was repeated until 1969 and the advent of the domestic limited overs league. Ironically it was the cancellation of the 1970 tour by the South Africans that resurrected the concept, and Barry Richards, Eddie Barlow, Mike Procter and Graeme Pollock all played in the Test series against England which was only subsequently stripped of international status.
