Bat with which W.G. Grace scored his first century. A silver plaque on the front of the blade reads 'With this bat // Dr. W. G. Grace // Made his first century'. Above this is the mark 'B. Warsop // Marylebone' and underneath this an illegible mark for another makers in Nottingham. Through this runs a word etched into the wood, which looks like 'Pearse'. There are no marks on the other side of the blade, apart from an address label selotaped on. It says 'Mr, and Mrs. M. B. Rose // 16 Kilfield Road // Bishopston // Swansea SA3 3DL // Tel: Swansea (01792) 232808'. The handle is split and has chunks missing.
