At the base of the poster are roundels listing all of the matches played on the 1861-2 tour. As was the custom, and because of the relatively low quality of the opposition, the England side played against teams of 22 to even out the odds. None of these matches was considered first class, but there was one such contest staged at the MCG in which HH Stephenson’s team split: the Surrey players joined by five `Surrey’ locals were defeated by the `World XI’.
