Framed, glazed and mounted newspaper clipping. Taken from etching Depicts cricket pitch with pavilion on right. Sheep graze next to a garden roller. Union flag flies from pole in middle distance. Church in far distance. Original signed W P. Title on lower edge, ‘Lord’s Ground in 1837. (see page 249)’ Print on reverse.

At the time of MCC’s 50th anniversary Lord’s was a very basic ground. The setting was still rural and the grass was kept short by a flock of sheep. At the time the pitch was considered to be one of the most dangerous in the country.
