Description
Gravure reproduction. Large coloured print after a painting by Algernon Talmage. Entitled 'The Founding of Australia.' In the painting Captain Arthur Phillip is seen raising a tankard, wearing white with a blue coat and hat. Others in similar uniform are also seen raising tankards, while a man in a striped blue and white shirt and red bandana is raising the Union Jack up a flagpole. Trees are seen to the left and a cove is seen in the background, with a large ship and smaller ship on the water. Below is the title and a description, with details about the original painting on the left and right. Written on in pen is 'Present by, - The Author - D. Hope Johnston (of Sydney Australia) London, 1945.
