The 1981/-82 tour by England was the first of the so-called `Rebel’ tours and in fact news of the venture did not actually break until the team was in South Africa. It caused uproar with the players nicknamed `the Dirty Dozen’ but the South African authorities trumpeting the return of official international cricket. Springbok colours were awarded to the home South African Breweries XI who were clear victors, with Jimmy Cook and Vintcent van der Bijl starring.
