Seven colour lithograph. Full length portrait of W G Grace at the wicket. Grace is wearing pads and a red cap with narrow yellow stripes. Left foot forward, bat over shoulder. Poem in red along lower edge. ‘Dr W G Grace had hair all over his face. Lord how the people cheered when the ball disappeared in his beard’. Signed and numbered by the artist ‘91/500’ ‘John Thirsk’, in pencil. Includes typed A4 sheet with details on print, artist and W G Grace
This Limited Edition, seven-colour lithograph of Dr W G Grace was commissioned by The Sun, and produced by Curwen Studios, London, April 1972.
The lithograph was hand drawn on seven zinc plates by John Thirsk, and printed on Sanders mould-made 140 lb paper of sheet size 30 ½ x 22 ½ inches.
Each print is signed by the artist 1 to 500. The edition is strictly limited to 500 lithographs only, and all plates have now been destroyed.
