Cope Mitre and Stole belonging to The Right Reverend Lord Sheppard of Liverpool
(1929 - 2005)
David Sheppard was the only serving clergyman to play cricket for England.
He commissioned these Episcopal robes for the occasion of his becoming Bishop of Liverpool in 1975.
They were designed by Renate Melinsky.
The design on the back of the cope depicts the City of God above and the Inner Cities of our land below.
The design on the mitre depicts the holy Spirit in the form of a dove, descending.
Presented by Thomas and Alexander Maxwell, the Bishop's nephews, on August 16th, 2005.
