Gloves are vitally important to protect delicate fingers from injuries that could curtail a player’s season. The artist Nicholas ‘Felix’ Wanostrocht is credited with inventing India-rubber batting gloves during the 19th century. Our earliest examples are made of individual sausages of padded leather attached to the fingers with straps or elastic. They came in adult and child sizes.
