Herschelle Gibbs’ batting feats are perhaps best symbolised by his innings of 175 off 111 balls to lead South Africa to victory over Australia in 2006 in what was at the time the highest-scoring One Day International of all time. His fielding at point earned a reputation second only to Jonty Rhodes and he was consequently a highly desirable acquisition in the early Indian Premier League auctions, winning the championship with Deccan Chargers in 2009.
Dale Steyn is, at the time of writing, poised to seize the leading wicket taker’s title from Shaun Pollock. In the best tradition of the fastest bowlers, he has been the spearhead of the South African attack mastering conditions all over the world using his fearsome pace and ability to swing the ball both ways.
AB De Villiers debuted in the same match as Dale Steyn and has proved his equivalent as a batsman. A supremely gifted sportsman, he has proved himself ultimately flexible batting up and down the order, wicket-keeping, captaining and adapting his game seamlessly to all formats. He has scored the fastest 50, 100 and 150 in ODI cricket, the fastest Test century and the fastest T20 International 50 by a South African.
