Alec Bedser was known to his team-mates either as ‘the Big Fella’ or simply ‘Big Al’.
Standing 6’3” tall, weighing 15 stone and wearing huge size 13 boots it was not difficult
to see why. Spectators also valued him for his big heart, and his willingness to bowl all
day if required.
