This drawing is a study for one of six lithographs illustrating batting positions in cricket made as illustrations to Nicholas Felix’s book on cricket, Felix on the Bat. Felix, one of the leading cricketers of the mid-19th century, was among the first batsmen to use primitive leg-guards. He was also inventor of The Catapulta, an early bowling machine.
