F.R Brown of Cambridge University, Surrey and Northants had enough talent as an all rounder to perform the 'double' in his first full season of county cricket, and be selected to tour Australia with Jardine's 1932-33 team. His career enjoyed a renaissance after the war when he captained Northants, performed the 'double' for a second time, and captained England on the 1950-51 tour to Australia.
