Punch Bowl of James Dean, used at the Cricketers Arms, Duncton, c.1850. Pottery (South Wales), white underglaze, flat rim, two handles. Design: two colour schemes: (A) transfers in grey-blue; sides: 4 designs of garden scenes with vases of posies or caskets; inside bottom: waterlillies; on handles: vine leaves. (B) added at a later date [?] painted in bright blue and crimson; side: the inscription: James Dean/UAEE/Born at Duncton/Sussex/1816; surmounted by posies with anchor and rope; below handles: Union Jack and Blue Ensign crossed. Around rim and foot: bands of red and blue colours. Stamped on base, in grey blue, cartouche bearing the words: Bryncaerau/Llanelly/C + H; also a belt bearing the words: South Wales Pottery/Llanelly/Botanical.
