African drum, M.C.C. visit to Jinja, Uganda 1963. Gourd, hide-clad; hair side out, light brown. Design: covering the top and cupping the base are two shaped pieces of hide joined by twisting thongs of the same (whose underside thus revealed produce a lighter tone). At the top, on one side, are two loops to which are attached a cord for carrying. On the top is a silver plaque inscribed: M.C.C. visit to Jinja - Uganda/1963.
An African buckskin drum was sold at auction in 1987, but no further information is given in catalogue, so it is unknown if it was this object or another.
