John Lillywhite, brother of Fred and from the same cricketing family which founded the Lillywhite’s sporting goods business, was a leading all-rounder in his day and a member of both touring All-England’ XIs. Later, as an umpire, he staunchly opposed the introduction of over-arm bowling.
