A boxwood dolphin mould for gingerbread, opposing halves with hallmarked plaque inscribe: 'Harry Hall, Baker, Farnham, Surrey, 1820- Celebrated Hambledon cricketer. W. Beldham, Wrecclesham.'
William Beldham (1766-1862) was born in Wrecclesham, near Farnham, Surrey. The great run maker of his day, he was the last survivor of the original Hambledonian cricketers, having a career which lasted 35 seasons. He played for Surrey up to 1817, and took part in his last big match in 1821. The mould was a gift from Harry Hall who was not only a baker by profession but Beldham's cricket coach.
