Описание
Lamp, 'King Cricket' from Lord's Tavern, Iron, bronze gilded, mounted on circular wooden plinth. Design: an oramental grille is surmounted by a cushion decorated with balls which in turn supports a coronet whose 'points' are made up from balls resting on the handles of bats, more balls fill the interstices. Design very similar to I Zingari motif (HL)
This is one of four lamps which originally lit the outside of the Tavern in St. John's Wood Rd. By about 1878, owing to wear and weather they had become dangerous and had to be removed. This, the best of the four was preserved and taken to the paint shop, where it remained until 1915 when it was found and renovated by Mr W.H. Slatter, clerk of works.
Appears to have been over painted
