Alfred Mynn, “The Lion of Kent” was a powerful all-rounder and fast round-arm bowler. Round-arm, as seen here, was first attempted by the Hambledon bowler Tom Walker in a match at Dartford in 1794, but did not meet with approval. John Willes of Kent famously reintroduced the method in the early 19th century but MCC remained fiercely opposed, specifically outlawing it in 1816. Round-arm was legalized only in 1835.
