Full length portrait of former MCC President 2007 – 2008
Mike Brearley wearing a sleeveless Middlesex sweater,
by artist and England cricketer Kenneth Taylor.
Brearley captained Middlesex and England and was one
of the first modern batsmen to experiment with protective
headgear. Following the example of Patsy Hendren in
the 1930s he wore a hardened skull-cap underneath his
cricket cap when facing the fearsome fast-bowling
attacks of the 1970s.
