Description
Doulton Lambeth, stoneware, tobacco jar. Squat cylindrical form. Caramel glaze with small, impressed floral pattern. Raised, chocolate brown bands and white beaded moulding to rim and foot. Uneven blue/green glaze to jar rim. Six, sprigged, pale green figures in arched medallions, three batsmen and three fielders. . Maker’s marks on base: Doulton/Lambeth (trade mark); 1884, inscribed ‘EMH 140’ and ‘AW’; stamped triple ’h’ and ho (+ blocks)
Lid caramel and brown glaze with dark blue flowers and pale green ivy leaves. Central figure of a pale green, crouched wicketkeeper. Artist’s marks stamped ’EM’ and ‘hoo’. One of less than five examples known to exist
