- DescriptionMounted, black and white group portrait of the Parsee cricket team. Players wear white trousers, striped blazers with small lapels and round skullcaps. Three men in suits. Umpire on left. Three players sit or recline on matting on the ground. Located in front of a pavilion with ornate railings and palm plants. Names printed below ‘With the best compliments of the Parsee Cricket Team (D H Patell capt) printed in red.
- Display captionParsee team v Sheffield Park, 1886 M.2015.578 The first representative Indian side to play in England, its tour began at Sheffield Park and ended in Windsor Great Park in a match organised at the express wish of Queen Victoria that featured Princes Victor and Albert. The Parsees specifically requested that WG Grace be included in the side to play against them at Lord’s and he obliged scoring 65 and taking 11-44. They recorded only one victory on their trip.
